Long known for its outstanding, year-round outdoor recreational opportunities, Graham County has over 4 million acres of National Forest and protected wilderness lands, including Mount Graham. There are 284 sunny days per year with an average rainfall of 9 inches annually The average temperature in January is in the 60's and in July is in the 90's.

Mining in the valley
Freeport McMoRan Open-Pit Copper Mining is located north of Safford. It has been in operation since 2007. The Safford mine is a zero-discharge facility and one of the most environmentally advanced copper mines built.
