JOB TITLE: Special Education/Resource Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To help handicapped and exceptional students obtain maximum benefit from the educational program by providing appropriate individualized or small group instruction, and providing support for those handicapped and exceptional students in the regular classroom. To provide opportunities for academic, social, emotional, and physical growth, as appropriate.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include those of the teacher and the following:
Demonstrates knowledge of District referral and placement procedures.
Assists with testing of referred students and ongoing assessment of all special educational students.
Performs assigned role in child study team meetings.
Prepares appropriate goals and objectives and an annual IEP on each student.
Prepares plans on a weekly basis consistent with the student's IEP.
Develops and maintains a classroom environment which is guided in a positive and effective manner.
Safeguards student records confidentiality.
Works with mainstream teachers to suggest or provide instructional support and materials as necessary to meet the needs of their exceptional students.
Encourages and maintains open communication with parents by providing appropriate student progress reports.
Participates in in-service workshops and other developmental programs.
Supervises and assists in evaluation of assigned special education teacher aide.
Demonstrates knowledge of handicapping conditions of assigned students.
Demonstrates knowledge of instructional and remedial techniques appropriate to the needs of assigned students.

Job Requirements:
Must have or be qualified to receive an Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate and be appropriately certified to teach Special Ed.
