JOB TITLE: ECE Support Staff (Substitute)
REPORTS TO: Child Development Coordinator/Instructor
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. Creates and maintains an environment for children that provides choices and variety appropriate to their development potential - indoors and out.
1. Designs and conducts a program that:
a. Generates activities to promote the age appropriate, physical, cognitive, language, social, emotional and creative development of the children present;
b. Arranges indoor/outdoor activity time, quiet/active time, supervised free choice/teacher directed activities, individual, small group and large group opportunities, and small/large muscle development activities;
c. Designs activities, which enhance development of self-help skills, independence and a sense of responsibility;
d. Organizes time and activities, which will provide for the basic needs of children for food, rest, toileting, body movement and adjustment to difficult situations, such as parental separation and fatigue;
e. Provides opportunity for each child to individually interact with an understanding and supportive adult; and
f. Sets up opportunities, weather permitting, for each child to spend some portion of every day outside.
2. Composes and prepares weekly lesson plans to be approved by the Child Development Coordinator.
3. Supervises and maintains the daily operation of equipment and materials in assigned room.
4. Compiles market orders and shops for center supplies.
B. Develops and implements a parent involvement program approved by the Child Development Coordinator.
C. Reviews a progress file on each child with teachers on a periodical basis.
D. Supervises high school students fulfilling lab hours.
E. Performs other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
