Job Position Details:
JOB TITLE: Middle School Assistant Principal
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB DESCRIPTION:
To assist the Principal in fulfilling the responsibility of promoting the educational well-being of each student in school.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance along with investigating follow-up actions.
Resolves unexcused absences as expediently as possible.
Learns the system of record keeping relative to attendance and makes recommendations for improvements, if needed, to the Principal.
Becomes proficient and knowledgeable relative to understanding and operation of the computer attendance program.
Administers excessive absentee policy relative to students as outlined in Governing Board Policy.
Enforces policies of attendance as outlined in the student handbook.
Refers students to juvenile probation for excessive truancies per state statute and testifies in court when subpoenaed.
Maintains discipline throughout the student body and deals with specific cases as necessary.
Administers policies of discipline as outlined in the student handbook.
Practices firm, fair, and consistent discipline procedures.
Monitors halls during class breaks and student lunch period.
Assists teachers in establishing and implementing firm, fair, and consistent discipline (class rules, procedures, etc.), as needed.
Implements student discipline contracts as needed.
Communicates with parents as needed to improve student behavior. Files weekly suspension reports each Friday.
Knows the legal aspects of school law relative to student discipline and attendance and keeps Safford High School in compliance.
Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
Attends faculty meetings.
Meets with departments, as needed, to receive and provide information relative to student attendance, policies, and procedures.
Signs guest passes for social functions.
Supervises social functions at Safford High School (dances, etc.)
Assumes responsibility for coordinating support services.
Schedules the cafeteria and other facilities, as needed, by the school or student groups for banquets, dances, etc.
Assists student groups in arranging meeting locations.
Organizes and coordinates the attendance staf to produce a competent and diplomatic staff.
Assists the Principal in the general administration of the school and assumes the responsibilities of the Principal in his/her absence.
Assists the Principal per Governing Board Policies and as assigned by the Principal.
Brings to the Principal ideas, suggestions, etc., to facilitate the growth of Safford High School.
Performs such other duties and responsibilities as the Principal may assign. As time permits will be involved in classroom observations, etc.
Distributes and monitors school keys and inventory.
Reviews and rewrites student handbook.
Creates school calendar and calendar magnet. Inputs information on the school web calendar.
Approves activity requests for extracurricular activities.
Supervises security officer(s) and secretary.
Performs other duties that may be assigned by the Principal.
